Political Economy Review: Zimbabwe Land Reform

Power98.7: Power Business

Tuesday, 1 September 2020

Interview about the recent decision by the Government of Zimbabwe to compensation white farmers who last land during the land-grabs during the early 2000s. The government has also agreed to replace the white farmers’ lost land elsewhere if they cannot return to their previously seized land or compensated financially. The discussion reviews the possible impact of this policy decision to attract white farmers back to Zimbabwe and how this policy is part of the government’s plans to re-engage after being internationally isolated through sanctions. The interview also discusses the possible role that neighbouring countries and SADC can play in the process of international re-engagement; and the role that liberation movements play in changing the political situation in Zimbabwe.
