Evaluating South Africa’s Reopened Borders and Regional Trade Opportunities

eNCA: South Africa Tonight

Thursday, 1 October 2020

Interview about the recent reopening of international borders in South Africa and challenges that remain prohibiting international travel. Although South Africa has reopened its international borders some neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe are still at more restricted levels of the national lockdown response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The discussion reviews the possible impact of the inconsistent stages of dealing with COVID-19 and the variable impact this has on different economic sectors. The interview also discusses the important opportunities to improve regional trade amongst African countries and how South Africa should focus on its SADC neighbours in order to increase intra-regional trade and drive the economic recovery from COVID-19.
